Our Instructor Team
Gershon Ben Keren is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga and has been training in the system/approach since 1994. He originally completed the 29 day instructor course with the IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation), under the guidance of Eyal Yanilov and Amnon Darsa. In 2010, he was inducted into the Museum of Israeli Martial Arts in Herzliya, Israel (many members of his school in Massachusetts, attended the ceremony in Israel, and took the opportunity to train with many elite instructors within the IDF – Israeli Defense Forces). He has written three Amazon best-selling books on Krav Maga, with positive reviews/articles in the Military Journal. He has taught Krav Maga in Europe, Africa, the U.S., and Israel to both civilians and members of the security forces. He is also the author of the weekly Krav Maga Blog, which can be accessed by clicking here.
He holds two masters degrees, one in Psychology, and another in Criminology and Criminal Psychology, and is actively engaged in research, looking/studying both criminality and the factors that are at play in individual criminal acts. He has been working in the security industry since 1990, and uses his first-hand experiences of violence, combined with his academic understanding of violence to inform and direct his approach to dealing with violence. He continues to provide training and consultancy in security and risk mitigation/management to a wide variety of corporate clients.
Gershon teaches 99% of the classes at Krav Maga Yashir, and when not directly teaching, is usually on the mats assisting the others instructors when they teach. He is responsible for maintaining and updating the syllabus (when "new" and more "effective" solutions are developed in Israel, they are incorporated into the training), and oversees the belt/rank gradings.
